Dear Supporters,
As another year comes to a close we here at the Uyghur Human Rights Project want to extend our gratitude to you for standing with us as we advocate for the human rights of Uyghurs in East Turkestan. Your support is vital to our continuing efforts.
In our second year as an independent organization we have continued our work in documenting and raising awareness of human rights abuses in East Turkestan. This year we welcomed Omer Kanat as UHRP’s new director; his experience as a Uyghur rights activist will help us as we continue our mission.
UHRP drew attention to the situation in East Turkestan through our core mission of documenting human rights violations via our reports. We released a report on the issue of the Chinese government harassment of Uyghurs overseas, as well as major reports on the violations of Uyghurs’ labor rights, political representation and the Belt and Road Initiative’s effect on Uyghurs. We continued to engage with the Chinese speaking community through our outreach efforts, which has become one of UHRP’s most successful programs. UHRP has become a major voice on Uyghur rights; this year UHRP had the opportunity to raise the Uyghur issue at conferences and institutions around the world.
As you know, this year was a challenging one for human rights in East Turkestan. The government has established a high tech police state, and its crackdown on the freedoms of Uyghur citizens has extended overseas, with students being forced home for political assessment, sometimes being detained or imprisoned. Under these conditions a your support for our work is more important than ever. In the coming year UHRP plans to continue our effort to raise the case of Ilham Tohti and other unjustly imprisoned Uyghurs, and to push back against the Chinese government’s propaganda.
In order to help us in our mission we ask you to please consider
making a tax deductible donation to help support our work.
Thank you and happy holidays from everyone at the Uyghur Human Rights Project.

The Uyghur Human Rights Project (UHRP) is a human rights research, reporting and advocacy organization. Our mission is to promote human rights and democracy for the Uyghur people, raise awareness of abuses of Uyghurs' human rights, and support the right of the Uyghur people to use peaceful, democratic means to determine their own political future.
UHRP was founded in 2004 as part of the Uyghur American Association (UAA), a Uyghur diaspora group which works to promote the preservation and flourishing of a rich, humanistic and diverse Uyghur culture. In partnership with UAA, in 2016 UHRP began operations as an independent group.
